You may not know that a tiny portion of the City of Rochester is in District 61. It is called the 19th Ward. I met with Beatriz LeBron, a member of the school board. She is amazing. My purpose was to learn more about the needs of the community so, when I am in the Senate, I am ready and armed with the knowledge of what is needed, what has worked and what has failed.
We attended the wake of Father Tracey, a beloved priest who worked tirelessly for decades to help the people who live here. Beatriz introduced me to community members. What was disturbing, yet not surprising, was that not one person, not one, knew who their senator was. When they asked me his name, they looked dumbfounded as if I pulled a name out of air.
This 19th Ward needs help yet, there are good people who want nothing more than to see their children succeed and have a better life. Politicians fail when they ignore the families in their communities. A donor who gave my opponent $100,000 should not count more than a person who can’t give him $1. My focus is and will remain… the people.
As an aside, I know his people troll this page and I expect some announcement of the grand things he has done for the people of the 19th Ward. But, they know better.
