Previous races against this entrenched incumbent, had a 20-30% spread. We were down 8% (around 9,000 votes). And, we did it with integrity and fierceness as well.
My goodness we accomplished so much. I immersed myself in the communities across the district and felt, with every breath I have, the stories from people. It propelled me so much that I was able I beat him in debates and challenge the status quo. We called out his corporations over people mentality and his allegiance to his donors. Eyes were opened to the realities of his voting record (or lack of it) and how it negatively impacts our entire district from Amherst to Rochester.
For those who know me well, they know it is true when I say I am humbled. It was amazing to walk into headquarters and see volunteers there, many who I met for the first time, working away. People hitting the streets going door to door. The crazy parades. Those people with beautiful handwriting helping me get my notes out in the mail. The team on phones. The sign guys and gals and those who helped with the day to day minutia. The insane 10,000 piece lit drop. The 1,300 handwritten postcards in one night. Assembling 1,500 signs. So much to do and we got it done.
We felt like family, bonded by a desire to serve the greater good. My dear, fearless, exhausted team, I cherish you. You were a gift to me.
