LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR KATHY HOCHUL EXPANDS CAMPAIGN TO ELECT WOMEN CANDIDATES IN SWING DISTRICTS ACROSS NEW YORK
Hochul Has Helped Raise More Than $225,000 for Individual Democratic Candidates and County Committees this Cycle
New York, NY - Today, Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul announced she is expanding the map and will back five more Democratic women candidates in state senate races across New York, including:
Pat Strong (SD-46)
Michelle Ostrelich (SD-49)
Kathleen Cleary (SD-2)
Carima El-Behairy (SD-60)
Joan Elizabeth Seamans (SD-61)
In September, Hochul launched her campaign to elect Democratic women in Republican-held State Senate and Congressional districts by endorsing and financially supporting Liuba Grechen Shirley (NY-02), Tedra Cobb (NY-21), Tracy Mitrano (NY-23), Dana Balter (NY-24), as well as Monica Martinez (SD-03), Anna Kaplan (SD-07), Jen Metzger (SD-42), Jen Lunsford (SD-55), and Karen Smythe (SD-41).
“As I have been traveling the state non-stop and talking to voters, I have seen clear signs of significant Democratic energy in every corner of New York,” said Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul. “I have been working to elect more women to the State Senate and Congress because we need more women’s voices in elected office, and we have a great slate of Democratic candidates. I’m proud to continue my efforts with these five incredible women who will help us to flip the State Senate from red to blue. Governor Cuomo and I have worked to make New York the most progressive state in the nation, and we need the rightful Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins leading the State Senate to work with us to finally advance long-stalled priorities like the Reproductive Health Act, expanding voting rights, and criminal justice reform. I'm looking forward to using my experience and support to help elect Democratic women in swing districts all across New York.”
Lieutenant Governor Hochul continues to put a special focus on Democratic women running in Republican-held districts, because she is able to help candidates using her past experience successfully winning a long-shot special election in the most conservative congressional district in the state. She has also been working to help Democratic County Committees in every region raise funds for Get Out The Vote (GOTV) efforts. To date this cycle, Hochul has helped raise more than $225,000 for individual Democratic candidates and county committees.
Hochul recently won her race for reelection to be the Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor, winning 58 of New York’s 62 counties, including 3 out of 5 boroughs of New York City. She will continue campaigning vigorously in the remaining weeks to ensure Democratic victories at the federal, state, and local levels on Election Day, November 6th.
